Trans-Gambia Highway

The Trans-Gambia Highway is the most important road in The Gambia, running across the centre of the nation in a north-south direction. The road is also economically important for Senegal, in which it is designated as the N4 road. The Gambia is an elongated state forming a country that is mostly situated in Senegal (but not an enclave, as it also borders the Atlantic Ocean). The Gambia almost separates the Casamance region from the remainder of Senegal.

Senegambian stone circles

The Senegambian stone circles lie in Gambia north of Janjanbureh and in central Senegal. Coordinates: 13° 41 N – 15° 31 W. Approximate area: 15,000 square miles (39,000 km²). They are sometimes divided into the Wassu (Gambian) and Sine-Saloum (Senegalese) circles, but this is purely a national division. The stones were erected around the eighth century on top of earlier graves.

Farafenni

Farafenni is a town in the Gambia, lying on the Trans-Gambia Highway in the North Bank Division, just south of the border with Senegal. It is an important market town. The population of Farafenni is around 30,000 and the main local language is Wolof, although Mandinka, Fula and other languages are also fairly common.
