Residenz Ansbach (Ansbach Residence), also known as Markgrafenschloß, is a palace in Ansbach, Germany where St. Gumbertus and St. Johannis are also located. It was the government seat of the Margrave of Brandenburg-Ansbach. Today it is the administrative seat of the government of Middle Franconia. The Great Hall and the Orangerie in its garden serve as venues for the biennial music festival Bachwoche Ansbach.

The Ansbach University of Applied Sciences was founded in 1996 and counts approximately 1,800 students (2008). It belongs to the newest Universities of Applied Sciences of the Free State of Bavaria. The percentage of foreign students is about 6 percent. As of 2010 there are 2,300 students. Beginning with the winter semester 2006/07 the so called Bologna Process was implemented. Ansbach school attack
The Ansbach school attack occurred on 17 September 2009, at the Carolinum Gymnasium in Ansbach, Germany. The attacker Georg R. , a 19-year-old man whom the BBC reports as a former student, entered the school that morning armed with petrol bombs and an axe. At least nine people were injured in the attack, at least one of them seriously. A Nuremberg police spokesman stated that all the wounded are eight-graders.
