Ilm (Thuringia)

The Ilm is a river 128.7 kilometers long in Thuringia, Germany. It is a left tributary of the Saale, into which it flows in Großheringen near Bad Kösen. Towns along the Ilm are Ilmenau, Stadtilm, Kranichfeld, Bad Berka, Weimar, Apolda and Bad Sulza. In the valley of Ilm river runs the federal motorway 87 from Ilmenau to Leipzig and two railways: the Thuringian Railway between Großheringen and Weimar and the Ilm Railway (Ilmbahn) between Kranichfeld and Weimar.

Rudelsburg

The castle ruin Rudelsburg lies on the east bank of the river Saale atop a rocky shell limestone ridge, approximately 85 metres above the river and above Saaleck, a suburb of the town of Bad Kösen in the Burgenlandkreis district in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. The Rudelsburg was built in the Middle Ages by the Bishop of Naumburg and served to secure trade routes such as the Via Regia through the Saale Valley.

Pforta

Pforta, or Schulpforta, is a former Cistercian monastery, Pforta Abbey (1137-1540), near Naumburg on the Saale River in the German state of Saxony-Anhalt.
