Zarakes
Zarakes is a village in the Dystos municipality of Euboea, Greece. Its population was 707 according to the last census (2011). The municipal department of the same name (Δημοτικό Διαμέρισμα Ζαράκων) comprises Zarakes proper, Zarakon Beach and Mahalas old village. In historical times, Zarakes was called Zaretra (Ζάρετρα or Ζάρητρα).

Helios Airways Flight 522
Helios Airways Flight 522 (HCY 522 or ZU522) was a Helios Airways Boeing 737–31S flight that crashed into a mountain on 14 August 2005 at 12:04 EEST, north of Marathon and Varnavas, Greece, whilst flying from Larnaca, Cyprus. A lack of oxygen incapacitated the crew, leading to the plane's eventual crash after running out of fuel. Rescue teams located wreckage near the community of Grammatiko, 40 km from Athens. All 121 on board were killed.

Kato Souli Naval Transmission Facility
Kato Souli Naval Transmission Facility is a facility used by the Greek Navy for transmitting messages to submarines in the LF-range at Kato Souli near Marathon, Greece. It was commissioned in 1989 and uses as tallest antenna tower a 250-metre-tall guyed mast with umbrella antenna, the tallest structure in Greece. The site has an area of 650 acres. Nearby there was a transmission site of the US Navy with several shortwave transmitters.

Schinias Olympic Rowing and Canoeing Centre
The Schinias Olympic Rowing and Canoeing Centre (Ολυμπιακό Κωπηλατοδρόμιο Σχοινιά) was built to host the rowing and canoe sprint events at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Greece. It is the most northerly venue of the 2004 Games situated to the east of the town of Marathon. It covers 1.24 km² and has a spectator capacity of 14,000. It is a part of Schinias National Park.
