Vrontou, Pieria

Vrontou is a town of the former Municipality of Dio, which is part of the municipality of Dio-Olympos, in the Pieria regional unit, Central Macedonia, Greece, at an altitude of 120 meters, with 2,081 inhabitants (census 2001). An impressive and spectacular event is the carnival of Vrontou (Καρναβάλι της Βροντούς), that take place every year.

Pierian Mountains

The Pierian Mountains (or commonly referred to as Pieria) are a mountain range between Imathia, Pieria and Kozani Region, south of the plain of Kambania in Central Macedonia, Greece. The village of Vergina, where the archaeological site of ancient Aigai lies, is built at the foot of these mountains. The highest point in the range is Flampouro at 2,193m (7,195 feet). The Pierian Mountains are the site of the ski resort of Elatochori.

Doliche (Thessaly)

Doliche, was an ancient Greek city in Perrhaebia in Thessaly, situated at the foot of Mount Olympus. Doliche, with the two neighbouring towns of Azorus and Pythion (Pythium), formed a Tripolis. The site is occupied by the modern town of the same name; when William Martin Leake visited the site in the 19th century, he found two fragments of Doric columns 2 feet 8 inches (81 cm) in diameter in a ruined church, and a sepulchral stone in the burying-ground, together with some squared blocks.
