Chocón Machacas

The Chocón Machacas Protected Biotope is a protected nature reserve in eastern Guatemala. It is located in the municipality of Livingston, in a densely forested area covering the lower reaches of the Chocón Machacas River basin and the northern shores of the Río Dulce-Golfete Dulce system . The Chocón Machacas river and Golfete Dulce complex form one of Guatemala's few remaining habitats for the endangered Caribbean manatee.

Chocón Machacas River

The Chocón Machacas River is a river in eastern Guatemala. The sources of the 53 km-long river are located on the eastern slopes of the Sierra de Santa Cruz at {{#invoke:Coordinates|coord}}{{#coordinates:15.793835|N|89.133890|W||||| | |name= }}. From there it flows in a generally west-south-west direction into the Golfete Dulce. The Chocón Machacas river and Golfete Dulce complex form one of Guatemala's few remaining habitats for the endangered Caribbean manatee.

Sarstoon River

Sarstoon River is a river in the Toledo District of Belize. It forms the country's southern boundary with Guatemala. The river's sources are located in neighbouring Guatemala, where it is known by its Spanish name, Río Sarstún. It flows through the Guatemalan departments of Alta Verapaz and Izabal into Belize and through Toledo to the Caribbean Sea.

Livingston, Guatemala

Livingston is the name of a town in Izabal Department, eastern Guatemala, at the mouth of the Río Dulce at the Gulf of Honduras. The town (whose name is occasionally adapted into Spanish orthography as Lívingston) serves as the municipal seat of the municipality of the same name. It was Guatemala's main port on the Caribbean Sea before the construction of nearby Puerto Barrios. Livingston is noted for its unusual mix of Garífuna, Afro-Caribbean, Maya and Ladino people and culture.
