Paz River

The Río Paz is a river in southern Guatemala. Its sources are located in the Quezalapa mountains in the north of Jutiapa. From there it flows in a south-westerly direction and marks the border with El Salvador for most of its way before reaching the Pacific Ocean at {{#invoke:Coordinates|coord}}{{#coordinates:13|46|16|N|90|10|57|W|type:landmark_region:GT | |name=Mouth of the Río Paz }}. Laguna de Ayarza

Laguna de Ayarza is a crater lake in Guatemala. The lake is a caldera that was created some 20,000 years ago by a catastrophic eruption that destroyed a twinned volcano and blanketed the entire region with a layer of pumice. The lake has a surface area of 14 km² and a maximum depth of 230 m. The lake has a surface elevation of 1409 m.

Jutiapa Department

Jutiapa is a department of Guatemala that borders along El Salvador and the Pacific Ocean. The capital is the city of Jutiapa. It has a population of about 400,000, primarily of European and African extractions. The population is ethnically "ladinos" or "mestizos" (i.e. not Indians)(mestizo) in its majority. Jutiapa is the only department in Guatemala whose official language is Spanish, with no indigenous inhabitants. The department is divided into seventeen municipalities.
