Flói Nature Reserve

The Flói Nature Reserve is a bird and nature reserve located in southern Iceland. It includes a stretch of the east shore of the Ölfusá River. The reserve measures roughly 1–1.5 km (&#160) wide by 4.5 km long, with an area of about 5 km . It is an Internationally Important Bird Area as recognised by BirdLife International. It is all low-lying wetland, on average only 2 m above sea level, and is subject to seawater flooding at the spring tide. There are vistas of the surrounding mountains.

Kaldaðarnes

Kaldaðarnes is an ancient farm estate in Iceland on the banks of the Ölfus river, around 8 km west of Selfoss. Records of a farm at this location exist back to year 1200 where it is stated that Kaldaðarnes was one of few farms with rights to offer ferry service across the Ölfus river. At Kaldaðarnes there was a church during Middle Ages and in the church there was a wooden cross that was believed to have healing powers, drawing pilgrims to the church.

Eyrarbakki

Eyrarbakki is a fishing-town on the south-coast of Iceland with a population of about 570 people, not including inhabitants of the prison located there. The town is founded on the Great Þjórsá lava.

Þjórsá lava

The Great Þjórsá Lava is the largest lava flow in Iceland both according to area and volume and the largest lava that is known to have erupted in a single eruption in the Holocene time. It belongs to a group of lavas known as the Tungná lavas. It was erupted in the Veiðivötn region, Central Iceland, 8600 years BP (6600 BC). The crater area is covered by younger lavas and eruptives. The Þjórsá lava does not appear on the surface until 70 km downstream of its supposed crater area.

Kvíabryggja prison

Fangelsið Kvíabryggja is a prison in Iceland, It was founded in 1954. Used for prisoners with a remaining sentence of 2 year or less. Prisoners are expected to either work or receive education and to take care of themselves for the most part.
