Urriðafoss
Urriðafoss is a waterfall located in the river Þjórsá in southwest Iceland. In the early days of power companies plans were to build a power plant in Urriðafoss and make a railway to Reykjavík from the waterfall. It did not happen but now Landsvirkjun is planning to build hydropower stations on the lower part of Þjórsár river, at Urriðafoss and Núpur. The proposed Urriðafoss Power Plant is expected to have a capacity of approximately 125 MW and a power-generating capacity of 930 GWh per year.

It flows out through narrow gorges in the highlands of Iceland. Further downstream, another river, the Tungnaá, flows into it, before it enters the lowlands. There it passes the valley of Þjórsárdalur (Thjorsardalur) where the historical farm of Stöng is located.

Grímsnes
Grímsnes is a fissure or crater row volcano located in southwestern Iceland, a relatively small volcanic system located SE of Thingvallavatn lake east of an en echelon group of volcanic fields extending across the Reykjanes Peninsula. The elevation at its apex is 214 meters. Tephrochronology approximates the volcano's last eruption as 3500 BC. The individual volcanoes in the area include Kerið,a lake-filled volcanic crater. The Grímsneshraun lava-fields in the area cover a total of 54 km .
