Sirsi is a city in the North Kanara district in the Indian state of Karnataka. Sirsi was also know by the name Kalyanapattana during the Sonda Dynasty. It is a hill station town with a population of around 1,20,000 people. This is the largest city in North Kanara district. The falls are named for J. D. Lushington, a District Collector for the British Government, who discovered the falls in 1845.
