Currently (2005), the division consists of districts of Balaghat, Chhindwara, Jabalpur, Katni, Mandla, Narsinghpur, and Seoni. Jabalpur Division was originally constituted as a division of the Central Provinces of British India in 1861. The British division included the districts of Jabalpur, Sagar, Damoh, Seoni, and Mandla.

Jabalpur is one of the major cities of Madhya Pradesh state in India. Its old name was Jabalipuram which later changed to Jabalpur during British Governance. It is bordered by Katni to the north, Umaria to the north-east, Dindori to the east, Mandla to the south-east, Seoni to the south, Narsimhapur to the south-west and Damoh to the north-west.
