Hara forests
The Hara forests is the common name for mangrove forests on the southern coast of Iran, particularly on and near the island of Qeshm in the Persian Gulf. Dominated by the species Avicennia marina, known locally as the "hara" or "harra" tree, the forests represent an important ecological resource. The "Hara Protected Area" on Quesm and the nearby mainland is a biosphere reserve where commercial use is restricted to fishing, tourist boat trips, and limited mangrove cutting for animal feed.

2008 Bandar Abbas earthquake
The 2008 Bandar Abbas earthquake occurred on 10 September 2008 in the Hormozgān Province of southern Iran, 850 kilometres south of Tehran. Its epicenter was near the port city of Bandar Abbas, where an earthquake two years prior had caused damage. The earthquake measured 6.1 on the Moment magnitude scale and 6 on the surface wave scale, killing seven people and injuring up to 47.

Clarence Strait (Iran)
The Clarence Strait is a narrow strait separating the Iranian island of Qeshm from the Iranian mainland. It is the much smaller counterpart to the Strait of Hormuz. The native name for the strait is Khuran. The Clarence Strait is host to the most extensive mangrove forest in the Persian Gulf, which is known locally as the Hara forests.
