Iran Air Flight 655

Iran Air Flight 655 was a civilian jet airliner shot down by U.S. missiles on 3 July 1988 as it flew over the Strait of Hormuz at the end of the Iran–Iraq War. The aircraft, an Airbus A300B2-203 operated by Iran Air, was flying from Bandar Abbas, Iran to Dubai, United Arab Emirates. While flying in Iranian airspace over Iran's territorial waters in the Persian Gulf on its usual flight path, it was destroyed by the United States Navy guided missile cruiser USS Vincennes (CG-49).

Dayrestan Airport

Dayrestan Airport, also known as Qeshm International Airport, is an airport near the village of Dayrestan roughly in the centre of Qeshm Island, off the south coast of Iran. Qeshm International Airport forms a census "village" in Salakh Rural District, Shahab District, Qeshm County, Hormozgan Province, Iran. At the 2006 census, its population was 125, in 32 families.

2005 Qeshm earthquake

The 2005 Qeshm earthquake was a powerful seismic event that occurred on November 27, 2005, at 13:52 IRST on the sparsely populated Qeshm Island off Southern Iran, killing 13 people and devastating 13 villages. It was Iran's second major earthquake of 2005, following that at Zarand in February. The epicenter was about 1,500 kilometers south of Tehran, close to Iran's southern borders.

2008 Qeshm earthquake

The 2008 Qeshm earthquake occurred at 14:30 IRST on 10 September. It had an epicenter on the island of Qeshm, close to the location of the 2005 Qeshm earthquake. It had a magnitude of 5.9 on the moment magnitude scale and caused seven deaths and 30 injuries. It was followed by five aftershocks of M 5.0 or greater over the next ten months.
