2009 Tal Afar bombing

The 9 July 2009 Tal Afar bombing was a double suicide bombing which occurred in Tal Afar, Iraq in July 2009. The bombing occurred when two men detonated explosive vests. The attacks targeted the Governor of the Iraqi Central Bank. However, he was unhurt in the incident. Thirty four people were killed and more than 60 were injured.

Tal Afar

Tal Afar (pronounced /ta. la. fer/) (also Tal'Afar, Tal Afar, Tall Afar, Tell Afar, Tel Afar) is a city and district in northwestern Iraq in the Ninawa Governorate located approximately 50 km west of Mosul and 200 km north west of Kirkuk. While no official census data exists, the city which had been assessed to have a population of approximately 200,000, had dropped to 80,000 as of 2007, nearly all of whom are Iraqi Turkmen.
