Ballyfin GAA

Ballyfin GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association hurling and gaelic football club located in the village of Ballyfin in County Laois, Ireland. The club colours are green and white. The club grounds are at Cappinrush, beside Ballyfin's Roman Catholic church. The current Laois senior hurling players Sean Lowry, John Joe McHugh and Dermot McGill are members of the club as is Oliver Phelan who managed Laois to their 1996 All-Ireland Minor Football Championship.

Mountmellick GAA

Mountmellick GAA is a Gaelic Athletic Association gaelic football and hurling club in the town of Mountmellick in County Laois, Ireland. In 2006, Mountmellick bridged a 38 year gap to win the Laois Intermediate Football Championship for just the second time ever, beating Annanough in the final. Mountmellick has also won the Laois Junior Football Championship four times (1929, 1941, 1966 and 1972) and the Laois Minor Football Championship twice, in 1975 and 1977.

Port Laoise railway station

Portlaoise railway station is a railway station on the Dublin to Cork Intercity railway line. It is the end of the widening commuter belt for Dublin, and the western limit in the "Giant Hop" zone. It is situated above the town of Portlaoise, in County Laois. Irish Rail opened a new Traincare depot south-west of Portlaoise town centre in March 2008 (officially opened on 25th July 2008).

The Midlands Prison is closed, medium security prison in Portlaoise, Co. Laois. It receives prisoners who are aged 17 years and over. It has a bed capacity of 516 and its daily average number of inmates resident in 2009 was 512.

Portlaoise Prison

Portlaoise Prison (Irish: Príosún Phort Laoise) is the Republic of Ireland's only high security prison. It is located in Portlaoise, County Laois. It should not be confused with the Midlands Prison, which is a newer, medium security prison situated directly beside it. The prison was built in the 1830s, making it one of the oldest still operating today in the Irish prison system.
