Smithborough

Smithborough or Smithboro is a village in County Monaghan, Ireland. It is within the townlands of Mullaghduff and Mullaghbrack. It is roughly mid-way between Monaghan Town and Clones on the N54. Lisnalee is a townland in County Armagh, five miles from Mountnorris and four miles from Bessbrook, the main area known as Lisnalea consists of the Lisnalea Crossroads, this cross roads is the junstion of the Drumnahunshion Road with the Main Bessbrook-Mountnorris Road. The cross roads is also the location of the Lisnalea Park housing estate consisting of 21 detached, semi-detached, bungalow houses as well as a games pitch and playpark.

Attack on Derryard checkpoint

The attack on Derryard checkpoint was a raid carried out on 13 December 1989 by a Provisional Irish Republican Army (IRA) unit against a British Army permanent vehicle checkpoint complex manned by the King's Own Scottish Borderers (KOSB). It happened near the Northern Ireland–Republic of Ireland border at Derryard, near Rosslea, County Fermanagh. The IRA unit, firing from the back of an armoured truck, attacked the base with heavy machine-guns, grenades, rockets and a flamethrower.

Dartrey Forest

Dartrey Forest, near Rockcorry in north-west County Monaghan, Ireland, was formerly part of the Dartrey Estate, located in the Baronie of Dartrey. It was also named "Dawson Grove", the country estate of the Dawson family, who had the title "Earl of Dartrey" from 1866 to 1933. The once vast estate was centered on "Dartrey Castle" (demolished in 1946). The forest's main gate is only a few miles from Cootehill. It is currently managed by Coillte as a commercial forest.
