Roccamonfina (volcano)

The Volcano of Roccamonfina is an extinct volcano in Roccamonfina, Campania, southern Italy. It was active from some 650,000 to 50,000 years ago. It comprises an isolated large cone of some 25 km perimeter between the Monti Aurunci, the plain and valley of the Garigliano, the Monte Massico and the Monti Trebulani. The central caldera has a diameter of nearly 6 km . Volcanic activity is now replaced by minor seismic movements and by the presence of mineral waters.

Garigliano Nuclear Power Plant

Garigltiano Nuclear Power Plant was a nuclear power plant located at Sessa Aurunca, in southern Italy. It was named after the river Garigliano. Consisting of one 150MWe BWR, it operated from 1964 until 1982. First criticality was on 5 June 1963, with grid connection 1 January 1964 and full commercial operation from 1 June in that year. Final shutdown was 1 March 1982.

Bridge Real Ferdinando sul Garigliano

The catenary suspension bridge of Real Ferdinando sul Garigliano or the Bridge of Real Ferdinando over the River Garigliano was the first iron suspension bridge built in Italy, perhaps in continental Europe. This bridge, which was technologically advanced for its age, was built in 1832 paradoxically by the reactionary Bourbon Kingdom of Two Sicilies The engineer who designed the bridge was Luigi Giura.

Garigliano

The Garigliano is a river in central Italy. It forms at the confluence of the rivers Gari (also known as the Rapido) and Liri. Garigliano is actually a deformation of "Gari-Lirano" (which in Italian means something like "Gari from the Liri"). In ancient times the whole course of the Liri and Gagliano was known as the Liris. For the most part of its 40 km length, the Garigliano River marks the border between the Italian regions of Lazio and Campania.
