Lake Mezzano

Lake Mezzano (Italian: Lago di Mezzano) is a small crater lake of central Italy, of volcanic origin, which was formed 400,000 years ago. The lake has a circular shape typical of crater lakes. Its surface area is 475,000 m² the altitude of its surface is 452 m and has a perimeter of 2,516 m. The emissary which leaves Lake Mezzano is river Olpeta, that is an affluent to Fiora. The lake lies in the territory of the community of Valentano.

Lake Bolsena

Lake Bolsena (Italian: Lago di Bolsena) is a crater lake of central Italy, of volcanic origin, which was formed starting 370,000 years ago following the collapse of a caldera of the Vulsini volcanic complex into a deep aquifer. Roman historic records indicate activity of the Vulsini volcano occurred as recently as 104 BC, since when it has been dormant. The two islands in the southern part of the lake were formed by underwater eruptions following the initial collapse of the caldera.

Vulsini

Vulsini, also known as Volsini volcano, Vulsini Volcanic District, Vulsini Volcanic Complex and the Vulsinian District, is a circular region of intrusive igneous rock in Lazio, Italy, about 87 km to the north northwest of Rome, containing a cluster of calderas known to have been active in recent geologic and historical times. Potentially they still are active.

Castro, Lazio

Casone

Casone is a village in Tuscany, central Italy, administratively a frazione of the comune of Pitigliano, province of Grosseto, in the tufa area of southern Maremma. At the time of the 2001 census its population amounted to 130. Casone is about 80 km from Grosseto and 9 km from Pitigliano, and it is situated along the Provincial Road which links Pitigliano to the province of Viterbo and Lazio.
