Orco

The Orco (Piemontese: Eva d'òr, that is Water of gold; Latin: Orgus) is an Italian river. It originates in the Piedmontese slopes of Gran Paradiso, and after about 100 km (62 mi) reaches the Po River near Chivasso. Its drainage basin is home to the most important complex of hydropower in Piedmont, consisting of five dams: Agnel, Serrù, Ceresole, Piantonetto, Valsoera, and numerous turbines. The Orco is known also for its gold-bearing sand, extracted already in antiquity.

Chivasso railway station

Chivasso railway station (Italian: Stazione di Chivasso) serves the town and comune of Chivasso, in the Piedmont region, northwestern Italy. Opened in 1856, it forms part of the Turin–Milan railway, and is also a junction for three other lines, to Aosta, Asti and Casale Monferrato, respectively. The station is currently managed by Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI). Train services are operated by Trenitalia.

Basilica of Superga

The Basilica of Superga is a church in the vicinity of Turin. It was built from 1717 to 1731 for Victor Amadeus II of Savoy by Filippo Juvarra, at the top of the hill of Superga, to fulfill a vow the duke (and future King of Sardinia) had made during the Battle of Turin. The architect made allusions to different earlier styles while adding a baroque touch.

Superga air disaster

The Superga air disaster took place on Wednesday 4 May 1949 when a plane carrying almost the entire Torino A.C. football team (popularly known as Il Grande Torino) crashed into Superga Hill near Turin, killing all 31 people aboard. 18 players, club officials, journalists accompanying the team and the plane's crew were lost. The team was returning from a farewell match for Xico Ferreira against Benfica in Lisbon.
