Merse (river)

The Merse is an Italian river, a right tributary of the Ombrone. It runs through Tuscany for a distance of about 70 km and is the river of the Val di Merse. Its sources are near Poggio Croce di Prata and Poggio di Montieri in the range of hills known as the Colline Metallifere. From here it takes a north-easterly direction for the first half of its course before turning sharply to the south-east.

Civitella Marittima

Civitella Marittima is a village in southern Tuscany, in central Italy, administratively part of the municipality of Civitella Paganico, of which it houses the seat. It is located in the valley of the Ombrone river, at 329 metres above sea level. In 2001 it had a population of 517 inhabitants. The town is of Etruscan origins, although the current settlement dates to around 1000 AD.

Pari is a village in Tuscany, central Italy, administratively a frazione of the comune of Civitella Paganico, province of Grosseto, in the area of the Ombrone Valley. At the time of the 2001 census its population amounted to 204. Pari is about 44 km from Grosseto and 13 km from Civitella Marittima, and it is situated on a hill near the Ombrone and Farma rivers.

Monte Antico is a village in Tuscany, central Italy, administratively a frazione of the comune of Civitella Paganico, province of Grosseto, in the area of the Ombrone Valley. At the time of the 2001 census its population amounted to 33. Monte Antico is about 35 km from Grosseto and 18 km from Civitella Marittima, and it is situated where river Ombrone and river Orcia meet. It is easily reached from the Grosseto-Siena railway thanks to its own station.

Abbey of Sant'Antimo

The Abbey of Sant'Antimo, Italian: Abbazia di Sant'Antimo, is a former Benedictine monastery in the comune of Montalcino, Tuscany, central Italy. It is approximately 10 km from Montalcino about 9 km from the Via Francigena, the pilgrim route to Rome. Disused for many years, the abbey has since 1992 been in use by a small community of Premonstratensian Canons Regular. A tributary of the river Orcia, the Starcia, runs near the abbey.
