Mount Takamagahara

Mount Takamagahara (高天原山, Takamagahara-yama) is a mountain in the Gunma Prefecture of Japan, near Ueno village. Its measurement is 1,978.6 metres tall. The crash of Japan Airlines Flight 123 was initially reported on Mount Osutaka, but later confirmed to be on the ridge of Mount Takamagahara at a height of approximately 1,565 metres above sea level. This area was later renamed as Osutaka no One ("Mountain Ridge of Mount Osutaka") by the village mayor of Ueno, Takeo Kurosawa.

Minamiaiki Dam

The Minamiaiki Dam is a rock-fill embankment dam on the Minamiaiki River in Minamiaiki, Nagano Prefecture, Japan. Together with the Ueno Dam, it provides water for the Kannagawa Hydropower Plant owned by the Tokyo Electric Power Company. The Minamiaiki dam is the higher of the two dams. When completed, the station will have the largest power output of any pump-storage power plant in the world at around 2.82 GW. Since 2005 Unit 1 with installed capacity of 470 kW is in commercial operation.

Japan Airlines Flight 123

Japan Airlines Flight 123 was a Japan Airlines domestic flight from Tokyo International Airport (Haneda) to Osaka International Airport (Itami). On Monday, August 12, 1985, the Boeing 747SR that made this route, registered JA8119, suffered mechanical failures 12 minutes into the flight and 32 minutes later crashed into two ridges of Mount Takamagahara in Ueno, Gunma Prefecture, 100 kilometers from Tokyo. The crash site was on Osutaka Ridge, near Mount Osutaka.

Mount Osutaka

is a mountain in Ueno, Gunma Prefecture, Japan. It is 1,639 m tall. The plane crash of JAL 123 was initially reported on Mount Osutaka, but later confirmed to be on a ridge near Mount Takamagahara. It was the deadliest single plane accident in world history.
