Nyando District
Nyando district is a fairly new district in Kenya which broke away from Kisumu District in Nyanza Province in 1998. Nyando district borders the Rift Valley Province. The district is named after the Nyando River. Its capital is in a small town called Awasi, located 30 kilometres east of the provincial capital Kisumu. Other towns and villages in the district include Muhoroni, Chemelil, Ahero, Miwani, Koru, Kibigori, and Fort Ternan.

The Nyando River flows through central Ahero. The main local industry is agriculture, including rice fields.
