Kuldīga

Kuldīga is a town in western Latvia. It is the center of Kuldīga municipality with a population of approximately 13,500. Kuldīga was first mentioned in 1242. It joined the Hanseatic League in 1368. In the 17th century, Kuldīga (along with Jelgava was one of the capitals of the Duchy of Courland. Kuldīga was the birthplace of the linguist Max Weinreich. Kuldīga is the pearl of Kurzeme, Latvia's western region.

Venta Rapid

Venta Rapid is a rapid on the Venta River in Kuldīga, Latvia. It is the widest rapid in Europe – 249 metres and up to 270 metres during spring floods. Its height is 1.80–2.20 metres (&#160) and it changes depending on the water level in the river. It also features the widest waterfall in Europe. It is 110 me wide, but only two metres high. In the stone, canals are carved. They were used to catch salmon and sturgeon.

Kuldīga District

Kuldīga District was an administrative division of Latvia, located in Courland region, in the country's west. It was organized into a city and thirteen parishes, each with a local government authority. The main city in the district was Kuldīga. The district was located in the western part of Latvia on both sides of the Venta River. It had borders with 5 other former districts: Ventspils, Talsi, Tukums, Saldus and Liepāja.

Snēpele Palace

Snēpele Palace (Latvian: Snēpeles muižas pils) is a palace in the historical region of Courland, in western Latvia. It was originally built at the beginning of the 19th century as a baronial hunting lodge with two room apartments for guests on the second floor. The building has housed the Snēpele primary school since 1924.
