Mauritius

Mauritius Listen/məˈrɪʃəs/, officially the Republic of Mauritius is an island nation in the Indian Ocean about 2,000 kilometres off the south east coast of the African continent. The country includes the islands of Mauritius, Rodrigues, 560 kilometres east of the principal island, the islands of Agaléga and the Saint Brandon. The islands of the Republic of Mauritius form part of the Mascarene Islands, which also include the neighbouring island of Réunion.

Pieter Both (mountain)

Pieter Both is the second highest mountain of Mauritius, at 820 metres tall. The mountain is shorter that Piton de la Petite Rivière Noire by eight meters. It is named after Pieter Both, the first Governor-General of the Dutch East Indies. It is located in the Moka Range. The notable feature of this mountain is the gigantic rock formation at the very top of it, which resembles a human head. To climb the mountain following the main ridge takes about an hour, and is mildly difficult.

Champ de Mars Racecourse

The Champ de Mars Racecourse is a thoroughbred horse race track in Port Louis, Mauritius. The Racecourse was inaugurated on 25 June 1812, by The Mauritius Turf Club (MTC) which was founded earlier in the same year by Colonel Edward A. Draper. The Mauritius Turf Club is the oldest horse-racing club in the Southern Hemisphere and the second oldest in the world.
