Arandis, Namibia

Arandis, Namibia is a town in Erongo Region, Namibia. It has been called the Uranium Capital of the World as it is located just 15 km outside the world's largest open-pit uranium mine, the Rössing Uranium Mine. Established for the workers of Rössing Uranium in 1978, Arandis was granted self–administration and "town" status in 1994. Currently it has 7,600 inhabitants, most of whom are somehow connected to the mine, and owns 29 square kilometres of land.

Arandis Airport

Arandis Airport is an airport serving Arandis, a town in the Erongo Region of Namibia. The airport is about 5 km south of the center of Arandis. The town and airport also provide service to the Rössing Uranium Mine, one of the world's largest open-pit uranium mines.

Trekkopje

Trekkopje is a settlement in Namibia, 45 kilometres north-east of Swakopmund on the road to Usakos. About 20 km to the north the Trekkopje uranium mine is under construction. It will be Southern Africa's largest uranium mine when it reaches full production capacity in 2013.

Battle of Trekkopjes

The Battle of Trekkopjes on 26 April 1915 was a German assault on the South African held town of Trekkopjes during the South-West Africa Campaign of World War I. The South African Major Skinner had been ordered to defend Trekkopjes, and came into contact with a German column advancing on that town. Skinner withdrew back into Trekkopjes and dug in his forces. The German attack was repulsed with the help of armoured cars, leaving the South Africans victorious.
