Diktel
Diktel is the headquarters of Khotang District, a part of Sagarmatha Zone, Nepal. At the time of the 1991 Nepal census it had a population of 7,324 persons residing in 1,433 individual households. The town is located at {{#invoke:Coordinates|coord}}{{#coordinates:27|12|50|N|86|47|52|E|type:city_region:NP | |name= }} and has an altitude of 1,530 metres . It contains a notable jail.

The district, with Diktel as its district headquarters, covers an area of 1,591 km² and has a population (2001) of 231,385. Khotang is part of the area traditionally called Majh Kirat/Kirant (middle Kirat), home to indigenous ethnic Kirat Rai people. Apart from Rais, other ethnic groups and hill castes live in Khotang.

Maratika Cave
Maratika Cave and Maratika Monastery are located in Khotang District in Nepal, circa 185 km south west of Mount Everest. It is a venerated site of pilgrimage associated with Mandarava, Padmasambhava and longevity. Mandarava and Padmasambhava realised a number of terma that had been elementally encoded as terma in Maratika Cave by Dakini Sangwa Yeshe, terma that number among the longevity teachings of Buddha Amitabha and given at the behest of Bodhisattva Avalokiteswara.
