Westerschouwen
Westerschouwen is a former municipality in the Dutch province of Zeeland. The municipality was formed in a merger of the municipalities Burgh, Haamstede, Noordwelle, Renesse, and Serooskerke on January 1, 1961. As the name indicates, it covered the western part of the island of Schouwen. On January 1, 1997, Westerschouwen merged with Brouwershaven, Bruinisse, Duiveland, Middenschouwen, and Zierikzee to form the new municipality Schouwen-Duiveland.

Delta Works
The Delta Works is a series of construction projects in the southwest of the Netherlands to protect a large area of land around the Rhine-Meuse-Scheldt delta from the sea. The works consist of dams, sluices, locks, dikes, levees, and storm surge barriers. The aim of the dams, sluices, and storm surge barriers was to shorten the Dutch coastline, thus reducing the number of dikes that had to be raised.

Oosterscheldekering
The Oosterscheldekering, between the islands Schouwen-Duiveland and Noord-Beveland, is the largest of the 13 ambitious Delta Works series of dams and storm surge barriers, designed to protect the Netherlands from flooding from the North Sea. The construction of the Delta Works was in response to the widespread damage and loss of life due to the North Sea Flood of 1953.

Neeltje Jans
Neeltje Jans is an artificial island in the Netherlands in the province of Zeeland, halfway between Noord-Beveland and Schouwen-Duiveland in the Oosterschelde. It was constructed to facilitate the construction of the Oosterscheldedam. The island was named after a nearby sand bar.

Middenschouwen
Middenschouwen is a former municipality in the Dutch province of Zeeland. It covered the central part of the island of Schouwen-Duiveland. Middenschouwen was created in a merger of Duivendijke, Elkerzee, Ellemeet and Kerkwerve in 1961. It existed until 1997, when it was merged into the new municipality of Schouwen-Duiveland.
