Yeonpyeongdo

Yeonpyeong Island or Yeonpyeongdo (referred to by the DPRK as Yŏnphyŏng Islet) is a group of South Korean islands in the Yellow Sea, located about 80 km west of Incheon and 12 km south of the coast of Hwanghae Province, North Korea. The main island of the group is Daeyeonpyeongdo ("Big Yeonpyeong Island"), also referred to simply as Yeonpyeong Island, with an area of 7.01 km and a population of around 1,300.

Bombardment of Yeonpyeong

The bombardment of Yeonpyeong was an artillery engagement between the North Korean military and South Korean forces stationed on Yeonpyeong Island on 23 November 2010. Following a South Korean artillery exercise in waters in the south, North Korean forces fired around 170 artillery shells and rockets at Yeonpyeong Island, hitting both military and civilian targets. The shelling caused widespread damage on the island, killing four South Koreans and injuring 19.

Haeju Airport

Haeju Airport is an airport located in Haeju, South Hwanghae, North Korea. Haeju Airport is controlled by the Korean People's Army. The airport mainly operates military flights but also has a limited number of civilian flights. This airport is notorious to South Korean intelligence authorities, because former North Korean Intelligence agents frequently use it as a transfer point. The single runway 12/30 is 6200x289 ft (1890x88 m).
