Leirfjorden
Leirfjorden is a fjord in the municipalities of Leirfjord and Alstahaug in Nordland county, Norway. The 20-kilometre long fjord is located east of the town of Sandnessjøen, between the mainland and the island of Alsta. There is a short strait that connects it to the Vefsnfjorden to the south. There are two bridges that cross it: Helgeland Bridge in the west and Sundøy Bridge in the south. The village of Leland lies on the northern coast and the village of Sundøy lies on the southern coast.

Sundøy Bridge is a cantilever bridge in the municipality of Leirfjord in Nordland county, Norway. The concrete bridge connects the mainland to the village of Sundøya on the island of Alsta. The 538-metre bridge has three spans, with the main span being 298 metres long. The maximum clearance to the sea is 43.5 metres . Sundøy Bridge was opened on 9 August 2003. It was designed by Jan-Eirik Nilsskog. The bridge cost NOK 176 million.

Helgeland Bridge
Helgeland Bridge is a cable-stayed bridge that crosses the Leirfjorden between the mainland and the island Alsta in Nordland county, Norway. The town of Sandnessjøen is located just southwest of the bridge on the island. Helgeland Bridge was designed by Holger S. Svensson. Construction began in 1989 and it was finished in 1991. The bridge officially opened in July 1991. Construction cost was 200 million NOK. The bridge was a toll bridge until 23 June 2005.

The church is part of the Sandnessjøen parish in the Nord-Helgeland deanery in the Diocese of Sør-Hålogaland. The white, wooden church was built in 1881 and it seats about 380 people. The church was consecrated on 31 July 1882 by the bishop Jacob Sverdrup Smitt.
