The town of Stokmarknes is situated on the northern shore of the island and the village of Melbu is on the southern coast. The island has an area of 102 square kilometres . The 657-metre tall mountain Lamlitind is the highest point on the island. Hadseløya is connected to the neighboring island of Langøya by the Hadsel Bridge.

Hadselfjorden or Hadselfjord is a fjord (or more accurately a strait) in Vesterålen, Norway. The fjord is separates the island of Hadseløya (on the north and west side of the fjord) from the islands of Austvågøya and Hinnøya island (on the south and east side of the fjord). In the northeast, the Hadselfjorden connects with Sortlandssund strait, which separates the islands of Langøya and Hinnøya.
