The church is part of the Dønna parish in the Nord-Helgeland deanery in the Diocese of Sør-Hålogaland. The white, wooden church was built in 1871 by the architect Niels Stockfleth Darre Eckhoff. The building was consecrated on 18 June 1871. It seats about 300 people.

It was consecrated on 11 September 1913. The church seats about 220 people and holds worship services at Christmas and some Sundays in the summer.

Åkviksundet Bridge
Åkviksundet Bridge is a box girder bridge that crosses the Åkviksundet strait between the islands of Dønna and Staulen in Nordland county, Norway. Together with Hoholmen Bridge, it forms the road connection between the municipalities of Herøy and Dønna. The bridge is 285 metres long, the longest of the 3 spans is 135 metres, and the maximum clearance to the sea is 24.2 metres . Jan-Eirik Nilsskog was the main engineer that built the bridge.
