The lake is part of the Otra river and was home to the steamship Bjoren from 1866–1896 when it was moved to the Byglandsfjorden. The lake is located about 6 kilometres west of the village of Birketveit in Iveland, about 2.5 kilometres north of the village of Hægeland, and about 15 kilometres south of the village of Hornnes.
