1935 Balochistan earthquake

The 1935 Balochistan Earthquake occurred on 31 May 1935 at 3:02 am at Quetta, Balochistan, British India (now part of Pakistan). The earthquake had a magnitude of 7.7 Mw and anywhere between 30,000 and 60,000 people died from the impact. This ranks as one of the deadliest earthquakes that hit South Asia. The quake was centred 4.0 kilometres South West of Ali Jaan, Balochistan, British India.

Kalat District

Qalat or Kalat, is a district in Balochistan, Pakistan. It is one of 26 in that province, and encompasses an area of 6,621 km . The population of the district is estimated to be over 400,000 in 2005. The district is governed from the city of Kalat. Kalat was notified as a district on February 3, 1954. At that time Khuzdar and Mastung districts were sub-divisions of Kalat (which then also included Bolan, Jhal Magsi and Naseerabad; these were separated in 1965 as Kachhi District).
