Gurdwara Janam Asthan is a prominent gurdwara in Sikhism, built by Maharaja Ranjit Singh in the 19th century to mark the birthplace of the founder of Sikhism, Guru Nanak Dev. Shahkot, is a town and tehsil in the Nankana Sahib District of Pakistan. The town has a population of about 200,000. Shahkot is on the Lahore-Faisalabad highway. The town was named by or after John Paul Warburton (1840-1919), a high ranking police officer of the Raj period.
