Originally the villa of Pisco was founded in 1640, close to the indigenous emplacement of the same name. Pisco is a Quechua word that means "bird. " Pisco originally prospered because of its nearby vineyards and has been claimed to be the namesake of pisco.

Hacienda San José (Ica, Peru)

The Hacienda San José is located in the District of El Carmen, in the Province of Chincha, in the Department of Ica, Perú. The hacienda suffered great damage after the 2007 Peru earthquake that hit the central Peruvian coast on 2007-08-15. The Hotel chain Casa Andina purchased the property and is conducting extensive renovations (which began in 2009). They plan to have the hotel open for guests by the end of 2010.
