1970 Peru-Ecuador earthquake

The 1970 Peru-Ecuador earthquake occurred on December 9, 1970 at 23:34 local time . The epicenter was located in northwestern Peru, between Piura and Tumbes, near the Peru-Ecuador border. This earthquake had a magnitude of Mw 7.1, or Ms 7.1. About 81 people were reported dead in Peru and in Ecuador together. Liquefaction was observed. The maximal intensity reached MM IX. Fractures in constructions were reported in the urban area of Talara.

Punta Sal

Punta Sal is a small beach resort located in the department of Tumbes, in northern Peru. Due to its location near the warm current of El Niño and the cold Humboldt Current which collide in this area, Punta Sal benefits with year round sunshine. The beach is one of the longest of the north coast and its waters are warm and tranquil. The resort is divided into two sections, Big Punta Sal and Small Punta Sal. The water temperature averages year round from 24°C to 29°C or 75°F-82°F

Zorritos

Zorritos is a town in the Tumbes Region, in northwestern Peru. It has a population of 6,605 (1999) and is the capital of the Contralmirante Villar Province. It is also the main settlement in the Zorritos District. Located 28 km south of Tumbes (the regional capital), Zorritos used to be a favourite beach resort for the Tumbes aristocracy, thanks to the petroleum-related activities in the area.
