Basilan

The Province of Basilan is an island province of the Philippines within the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM). Basilan is the largest and northernmost of the major islands of the Sulu Archipelago and is located just off the southern coast of Zamboanga Peninsula. Its capital, Isabela City, is administered as part of the Zamboanga Peninsula Region. Basilan is home to three main ethnic groups, the indigenous Yakans, and the later-arriving Tausugs and Zamboangueño.

Basilan Island

Basilan Island is an island of the Philippines, it belongs to Basilan Province with its capital Isabela City. Basilan is geographically located between latitude 6°15' and 7°00' longitude 121°15' and 122°30'. Basilan is one of a system of 7,107 islands that make up the Philippine archipelago. Regionally, Basilan is the biggest and northernmost island of the Sulu Archipelago between the Philippine island of Mindanao and Borneo which includes about 400 islands.

Maluso, Basilan

Maluso is a 4th class municipality in the province of Basilan, Philippines. According to the 2007 census, it has a population of 48,175 people. On February 27, 2010, about 70 militants of the extremist Abu Sayyaf group attacked Tubigan village in Maluso, setting fire to homes and killing at least 11 people.

Sumisip is a 3rd class municipality in the province of Basilan, Philippines. According to the 2007 census, it has a population of 58,423 people. 12 barangays that were not on Basilan Island seceded to form the municipality of Tabuan-Lasa by virtue of Muslim Mindanao Autonomy Act No. 187, which was subsequently ratified in a plebiscite held on March 29, 2008.

Tipo-Tipo, Basilan

Tipo-tipo is a 3rd class municipality in the province of Basilan, Philippines. According to the 2007 census, it has a population of 26,548 people. In 2006, the municipalities of Al-Barka and Ungkaya Pukan were created from Tipo-Tipo, reducing its number of barangays from 39 to 11. Tipo-Tipo was the site of the 2007 Basilan beheading incident where Islamic rebels beheaded 14 Philippine Marines.
