Citânia de Briteiros

The Citânia de Briteiros is an archaeological site of Castro culture in the north-western Iberian Peninsula, significant for its size, urbanism, and architecture. Although primarily known for its remains of an Iron Age proto-urban hill fort, excavations at the site have revealed evidence of sequential settlements extending from the Bronze Age to the Middle Ages.

Freitas (Portugal)

Freitas is a village in Northern Portugal. It is the seat of an eponymous "freguesia" (Portuguese for civil parish), which in turn is part of the "concelho" (municipality) of Fafe. The civil parish has an area 6,24 km², with 745 inhabitants for a density of 119,4 people/km² (2001 census). The first lord of the village, a contemporary of the first king of Portugal, around 1164, became known as João das Freitas, hence initiating the surname Freitas.

Fontarcada

Fontarcada or Fonte Arcada is a parish in Portugal, in the municipality of Póvoa de Lanhoso. It is 5.6 km² and had 1,083 inhabitants in 1801 and 1,362 inhabitants in 2001 (with the latter giving a density of 243.2 inhabitants per km²). It was the birthplace of Maria da Fonte, leader of the Revolution of Maria da Fonte. Until the start of the 19th century it formed a couto of its own. Its parish church is the church of Fontarcada.

Church of Fontarcada

The Church of Fontarcada or Matriz de Fontarcada was a Romanesque monastic church to a Benedictine monastery founded in 1067, now the parish church of Fontarcada. It was classified as a National Monument by decree on 16 June 1910. It is dedicated to Saint Saviour. The monastery was founded by a donation of D. Godinho Fafes (or Falifaz), father of the rich count D.
