Estela (Póvoa de Varzim)

Estela is one of the seven civil parishes of Póvoa de Varzim, Portugal. In the census of 2011, it had a population of 2,316 inhabitants and a total area of 11.73 km². Estela is known for the traditional masseira farm practice in sand dunes and its name derives from Latin Stella (star). It is the largest agricultural parish of Póvoa de Varzim and, along with Aguçadoura and Navais, it forms the agricultural area of Póvoa de Varzim.

Aguçadoura

Aguçadoura is a Portuguese parish and former civil parish located in Póvoa de Varzim. In the census of 2001, it had a population of 4,530 inhabitants and a total area of 3.47 km². A 2013 law amalgamated it into the new União das Freguesias de Aguçadoura e Navais. The name of Aguçadoura derives from "petra aguzadoira" (sharp stone or stone to sharp farming tools).

Laundos

Laundos or Laúndos is one of the seven civil parishes of Póvoa de Varzim, Portugal. In the census of 2011, it had a population of 2,055 inhabitants and a total area of 9.69 km². The name was first documented in 1033 as Montis Lanutus referring to São Félix Hill.

Barqueiros

Barqueiros is a Portuguese parish, located in the municipality of Barcelos. It has a population of 2,053 inhabitants and a total area of 8.1 km². Barqueiros has an annual festival known as Festa Da Senhora Das Necessidades, which is considered one of the most impressive festivals of the province of Minho, held annualy on September 6, 7 and 8. Barqueiros became daily news in Portugal in the 1980's due to mass protests by the citizens of Barqueiros against the mining of Kaolin.

Terroso

Terroso is an ecclesiastical parish and former civil parish located in Póvoa de Varzim. In the census of 2001, it had a population of 2,472 inhabitants and a total area of 4.63 km². A 2012 law merged the parish with neighbouring Amorim and Aver-o-Mar, becoming the northern parish of the city of Póvoa de Varzim, known as União das Freguesias de Aver-o-Mar, Amorim e Terroso. Terroso derives from the Latin Terrosu meaning full of soil as a reference to Cividade or Cividade Hill.
