Cabo Carvoeiro
Cabo Carvoeiro lie at the westernmost point of the Peniche peninsula, next to the Atlantic ocean, in the Peniche municipality, Leiria district. It faces the Berlengas archipelago, integrated in a natural terrestrial and maritime reserve. Battle of the Berlengas (1666)
The Battle of Berlengas was fought on 1666, between the Portuguese defenders of the Fort São João Baptista and a Spanish fleet commanded by Diego de Ibarra. The Spanish fleet, which had previously failed in its main objective of kidnaping Portugal's new Queen, then proceeded to storm the fort on the Berlengas.
