Zhukovka

Zhukovka is a town and the administrative center of Zhukovsky District of Bryansk Oblast, Russia, located on the left bank of the Desna River 56 kilometers northwest of Bryansk. Population: 18,269; 19,731; 19,706. It was founded in 1868 as a railway station on the Oryol–Riga railroad, better known as Riga — Oryol Railway. In following years the settlement grew around the Zhukovka station. The 43-kilometer branch line leads to Kletnya. Town status was granted to it in 1962.

Sudost River

The Sudost River is a river in Bryansk Oblast in Russia and Chernihiv Oblast in Ukraine. It is a right tributary of the Desna River. The length of the Sudost River is 208 kilometers . The area of its basin is approximately 5,850 square kilometers . The river freezes up in November and December, and stays icebound until late March–early April. The town of Pochep and the urban-type settlement of Pogar stand on the river.
