Angrapa River

Angrapa is a river in northeastern Poland and Russia. It originates in Masuria and flows into the Pregolya, of which it is a main tributary. The Angrapa has a length of 172 km and a basin area of 3,639 km². The Russian name Angrapa is derived from the old German name Angerapp, which in turn is derived from the Old Prussian words anguris (eel) and apis (river). The river's name therefore means "Eel River". The city of Ozyorsk (formerly the German town of Darkehmen) lies on the Angrapa.

Nemmersdorf massacre

Nemmersdorf in East Prussia was one of the first pre-war ethnic German villages to fall to the advancing Red Army in World War II. On October 21, 1944 it was the scene of a massacre perpetrated by the Soviet soldiers against German civilians and French and Belgian noncombattants. Determining the facts has aroused controversy.

Mayakovskoye

Mayakovskoye is a rural locality (a settlement) in Kaliningrad Oblast, Russia, located to the southeast of the town of Gusev, on the banks of the Angrapa river. Until 1945, the settlement Nemmersdorf was a part of German East Prussia. It became known during World War II on October 22, 1944 as the site of the first Soviet war crime on German territory against Germans, the Nemmersdorf massacre.

Żabin, Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship

Żabin (German: Klein Szabienen, from 1936–38 Klein Schabienen, from 1938–45 Kleinlautersee) is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Banie Mazurskie, within Gołdap County, Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship, in northern Poland, close to the border with the Kaliningrad Oblast of Russia. It lies approximately 11 kilometres north of Banie Mazurskie, 17 km west of Gołdap, and 119 km north-east of the regional capital Olsztyn.
