Lake Valdayskoye

Lake Valdayskoye, Lake Valdai (Russian: Валдайское озеро, озеро Валдай) is a freshwater lake, located in the center of Valdaysky District of Novgorod Oblast in Russia, in the middle of the Valdai Hills. It is one of the biggest lakes in Novgorod Oblast. The area of the lake (without islands) is 19.7 square kilometres, and the area of its basin is 97.2 square kilometres . The average depth of Lake Valdayskoye is 12 metres (the deepest point is 60 metres).

Valday Iversky Monastery

Valday Iversky Monastery (Russian: Валдайский Иверский монастырь) is a Russian Orthodox monastery founded by Patriarch Nikon in 1653. The monastery is located on an island in Lake Valdayskoye in Valdaysky District of Novgorod Oblast, Russia, close to the town of Valday. In the 17th century, the Valday Iversky Monastery was one of the most influential monasteries in Russia and a significant cultural center. The monastery derives its name from the Iviron Monastery on Mount Athos.

Yazhelbitsy

Yazhelbitsy is a village in Valdaysky District of Novgorod Oblast, Russia, located on the M 10 highway 75 miles south-east of Veliky Novgorod. It is probably most famous as the site of the 1456 Treaty of Yazhelbitsy between Grand Prince Vasily II (r. 1425-1462) and Novgorod the Great, in which Novgorod's political independence was strictly curtailed. Failure to abide by the treaty led to Novgorod's defeat at Shelon River in 1471 and its final subjugation by Moscow in 1478.

Berezayka River

Berezayka is a river in Novgorod Oblast and Tver Oblast of Russia. Berezayka starts from the Berezay Lake in the Valdai Hills at {{#invoke:Coordinates|coord}}{{#coordinates:57|45|20|N|33|19|00|E| | |name= }}, flows through a number of lakes including the southeastern part of the Piros Lake, and joins the Msta River at Berezovsky Ryadok village at {{#invoke:Coordinates|coord}}{{#coordinates:58|05|50|N|34|29|10|E| | |name= }}. It is a popular rafting route.
