Ganina Yama
Ganina Yama was a 9' deep pit in the Four Brothers mine near the village of Koptyaki, 15 km north from Yekaterinburg. On the night of 17 July 1918 the bodies of Tsar Nicholas II of Russia and his family (who had been murdered at the Ipatiev House) were secretly transported to Ganina Yama and thrown into the pit. A week later, the White Army drove the Bolsheviks from the area and launched an investigation into the fate of the royal family.

Execution of the Romanov family
The execution of the Russian Imperial Romanov family and those who chose to accompany them into exile–Eugene Botkin, Anna Demidova, Alexei Trupp, and Ivan Kharitonov–occurred in Yekaterinburg on 17 July 1918, by order of the Ural Soviet, and, according to some historians, on instructions given by Vladimir Lenin and Yakov Sverdlov, in order to prevent the Romanovs from being subsequently used for mustering the White forces in the ongoing Russian Civil War.

Ural Federal District (Russian: Ура́льский федера́льный о́круг, Uralsky federalny okrug) is one of the eight federal districts of Russia. Its population was 12,080,523 (79.9% urban) according to the 2010 Census. The district was established on May 13, 2000 by a decree of the President of Russia.
