Alat was founded in the epoch of Kazan Khanate and was an administrative center of the Alat darugha. In 1708–1766, it was a town in the Kazan Governorate.

Borisoglebskoye airfield is an experimental aviation airfield owned by Kazan Aircraft Production Association. Located in the northeastern part of the city of Kazan, in the immediate vicinity of the borough Borisoglebskoe, it is designed for experimental design, experimental work, and testing aircraft products.
