Sumka River

The Sumka is a river in Zelenodolsky District of the Republic of Tatarstan, Russia, a left-bank tributary of the Volga River. Its length is 37 kilometers and its drainage basin is 250 square kilometers . It origins near Gremyachy Klyuch and falls to the Kuybyshev Reservoir, Volga, forming the western border of Vasilyevo, Tatarstan. The river valley comes through the Raifa section of the Volga-Kama Reserve. There the Sumka passes several major lakes, the biggest being Raifa lake.

2008 Kazan gas explosion

The Kazan gas explosion occurred on January 9, 2008, destroying an entire corner of a three-story khrushchyovka-style apartment building on Malaya Pechyorskaya Street in the Aviastroitelny District of Kazan, Tatarstan, Russia. The explosion took place at 0:28 a.m. local time. The blast destroyed 12 apartments and killed ten residents, including one woman who died of blast-related trauma in a hospital after being rescued from the rubble. Additionally, two were non-fatally wounded.

Borisoglebskoye airfield

Borisoglebskoye airfield is an experimental aviation airfield owned by Kazan Aircraft Production Association. Located in the northeastern part of the city of Kazan, in the immediate vicinity of the borough Borisoglebskoe, it is designed for experimental design, experimental work, and testing aircraft products. Since the late 1980s at the airport naddanom conducted test flights of Russian strategic bombers Tupolev Tu-160 (Blackjack), as well as passenger airliners mid-range Tupolev Tu-214.

Alat, Russia

Alat or Rus Alatı is a village in Vysokogorsky District of the Republic of Tatarstan, Russia. The village is situated on the Alat River, 33 kilometers to the north of Vysokaya Gora railway station. In 2000, its population numbered 212; in 1989, it was 210. All residents of Alat are ethnic Russians. Alat was founded in the epoch of Kazan Khanate and was an administrative center of the Alat darugha. In 1708–1766, it was a town in the Kazan Governorate.
