Sine River

The River Sine or Sine River is one of the rivers of Senegal. It flows into the Atlantic Ocean with the River Saloum in the delta of Sine-Saloum. There is also the Sine-Saloum National Park which UNESCO has afforded a World Heritage Status. In Serer religion, the River Sine is one of the sacred rivers in Serer country. Offerings and libations are made to Mind Ngo Mindiss (or Mindiss), the protector of Fatick in Serer religion.

Nuno Tristão

Nuno Tristão was a 15th century Portuguese explorer and slave trader, active in the early 1440s, traditionally thought to be the first European to reach the region of Guinea (legendarily, as far as Guinea-Bissau, but more recent historians believe he did not go beyond the Gambia River).

Saloum River

The Saloum River rises about 105 kilometers east of Kaolack, Senegal, and flows into the Atlantic Ocean. The significant Saloum Delta is located at its mouth, which is protected as Saloum Delta National Park. The river basin lies within the Serer pre-colonial Kingdom of Saloum. Mangrove forests occupy a 5-kilometer belt on either side of the river almost 70 kilometers upstream.

Saloum Delta

Saloum Delta or Sine-Saloum Delta is a river delta in Senegal at the mouth of the Saloum River where it flows into the North Atlantic Ocean. The delta covers 180,000 hectares. It extends 72.5 kilometers along the coastline and 35 kilometers inland. In 2011, a 145,811-hectare portion of the delta was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site. The site contains "brackish channels encompassing over 200 islands and islets, mangrove forest, an Atlantic marine environment, and dry forest.
