Sandy Bay, Cape Town

Sandy Bay is situated along the road between Cape Town to Cape Point and adjacent to Llandudno, Cape Town. Sandy Bay lies on one of the last remaining stretches of untouched natural coastline on the Cape coast. It is one of the Cape Peninsula's most inaccessible beaches and as such is well known as an unofficial nudist beach. There is no direct vehicle access to Sandy Bay and this prevents passers-by invading people's privacy.

Karbonkelberg

Karbonkelberg is a small peak forming part of the Table Mountain National Park in Cape Town, South Africa. It forms a prominent landmark overlooking the harbour at Hout Bay. An unusual feature is that sand has been blown up it by the wind, causing a dune-like feature. This has been popular with local residents to surf down it on polished boards or sheets.

Hout Bay Museum

Hout Bay Museum is a province-aided museum on 4 Andrews Road in Hout Bay near Cape Town, South Africa. Opened on April 05th, 1979. The museum has displays on the history of the Hout Bay valley and its people, focusing on forestry, mining, and the fishing industry up to modern times. The museum also organizes weekly guided nature walks into the surrounding mountains.

BOS 400

The BOS 400, a French Derrick/Lay Barge that ran aground while being towed by the Russian tugboat Tigr on June 26, 1994. The Tigr was chartered to tow the BOS 400 from Pointe-Noire in the Republic of Congo to Cape Town, South Africa. The tow-rope broke loose during a storm and causing the vessel to run aground off Duiker Point near Sandy Bay. Despite several towage attempts, the shipwreck was considered a total loss as salvors were able to recover little from the wreck.

Red Bull Big Wave Africa

The Red Bull Big Wave Africa is a surfing competition held annually in Cape Town, Western Cape, South Africa. The event is held at "Dungeons", just east of The Sentinel, a peak in Hout Bay, Cape Town. The reef has been known since the 80's as a site for large Atlantic swells breaking over a reef. The competition is held between 24 July and 31 August each year, depending on when appropriately large waves are available.
