Baengnyeongdo

Baengnyeong Island is a 45.8-square-kilometre, 8.45 kilometres long and 12.56 kilometres wide island in Ongjin County, Incheon, South Korea, located near the Northern Limit Line. The 1953 Korean Armistice Agreement which ended the Korean War specified that the five islands including Baengnyeong Island would remain under United Nations Command and South Korean control. This agreement was signed by both the DPRK and the United Nations Command.

2014 Asian Games

The 2014 Asian Games, officially known as the XVII Asiad, is the largest sporting event in Asia governed by Olympic Council of Asia (OCA). It is scheduled to take place in Incheon, South Korea from September 19 – October 4, 2014, with 437 events in 36 sports and disciplines set to feature in the Games. Incheon was awarded the right on April 17, 2007, defeated Delhi, India to host the Games. Incheon is the third city in South Korea after Seoul and Busan to host the Asian Games.

ROKS Cheonan sinking

The ROKS Cheonan sinking occurred on 26 March 2010, when the Cheonan, a Republic of Korea Navy ship carrying 104 personnel, sank off the country's west coast near Baengnyeong Island in the Yellow Sea, killing 46 seamen.

ROKS Sokcho (PCC-778)

ROKS Sokcho (PCC-778) is a South Korean Pohang-class corvette of the Republic of Korea Navy (ROKN). It was in the vicinity at the time of the sinking of the ROKS Cheonan and is reported to have fired shots at a possible target that it identified at that time.
