Battle of Trincomalee

The Battle of Trincomalee was the fourth in the series of battles fought between a British fleet under Vice-Admiral Sir Edward Hughes and a French fleet under the Bailli de Suffren off the coast of India during the American Revolutionary War. The battle was fought on 3 September 1782.

Capture of Trincomalee (1795)

The Capture of Trincomalee was the taking by force of the port of Trincomalee in the island of Ceylon by British forces on August 26, 1795. The principal fortress, Fort Ostenburg, held out until August 31. On 23 July 1795 a squadron under Commodore Peter Rainier consisting of Suffolk, Hobart, Centurion, Diomede, with troop-transports, and sailed for Ceylon to take Trincomalee and other Dutch settlements on Ceylon.
